Abstract
Objectives:
To deteremine the visual outcomes , the frequency and types of complications during cataract surgery by phacoemulsification in eyes with pseudoexfoliation (PXF).
Setting :
Benha university ophthalamology department Egypt
Method:
A prospective interventional non comparative study included 20 eyes of 18 patients with PXF who had cataract. all of them underwent phacoemulsification with stop and chop technique, follow up for 6 months, their intraoperative and postoperative complications, best corrected visual acuity and IOP were documented and statistically analysed.
Results:
Poor pupillary dilation in spite of use standerd mydriatic/cicloplegic drops and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs was the most common finding (40%).Iris hooks were used in (15%)and intracameral epinephrine are used in 25% of eyes. Other problems encountered were phacodonesis in 30%, capsular tension ring (CTR) were used in 20% of eyes, posterior capsular tear vitreous loss and conversion to ECCE.there were statistically significant difference between preoperative IOP and postoperative IOP. there were statistically significant difference between preoperative BCVA(LogMAR) and postoperative BCVA(LogMAR)
