Abstract
The membrane bones in Falco tinnunculus appear before any sign of ossification in the cartilaginous bones. The maxilla primordium appears at first then followed by the pterygoid primordium. The frontal , parietal and splenial bones appear later. In the lower jaw, the dentary, the angular, the supra-angular and gonial are developed early.
The premaxilla has two distinct process i.e., nasal and maxillary processes. The maxilla has four processes; the premaxillary, palatal, jugal and ascending processes. In addition, the palatine has three processes: the prepalatine, the choanal and the postero-medial processes. Also, the nasal bone has three processes: maxillary, premaxillary and frontal processes. Only the lachrymal bone is present while the prefrontal and postfrontal are completely absent. The lower jaw has the typical bony constituents found in other avian species.
