Abstract
Predictions of the flow around slender bodies at high angles of attack are obtained using
commercial software package, FLUENT. The investigation involved using CFD to determine the
flow field and aerodynamic coefficients on an ogive-cylinder body. The analyses were
performed at Reynolds number 0.89x105 and for ten angles of attack from 0 up to 90. The
computational methodology employed herein was the Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes
(RANS) technique. The k-ε two-equation turbulence model was chosen as the baseline
turbulence model because of its good performance in the comparisons with previous studies. The
mean lift coefficient CL and the drag coefficient Cd acting on slender bodies are in good
agreement with the previous experimental data. Results presented herein indicate that FLUENT
can reasonably predict the aerodynamics of slender body configuration to angles of attack up to
90 degree.
