Abstract
Laboratory experiments were carried out to investigate the effects of
maize husk ash and mustard seeds powder (Brassica an’ensis) on mortality and
reduction in Fj progeny of Sitophilus orvzae (L.), Rhizopertha dominica (F.).
Triboliurn castaneurn Herbst) and C’allosobruchus maculatus (F.). Results
showed that adult mortalities were concentration- and exposure period-
dependent. Mortality increased with increasing the exposure period and
concentration, Reduction in F1 progeny was also concentrations dependent and
reached its maximum at the highest concentration used. Mustard powder was
more effective to the adults of S oryzae, R. dominica and C maculatus than
maize husk ash. Based on the LC90 values, T. castaneum adults were the most
tolerant species to the two products followed by R. dominica, C’. maculatus and
L oryzae.
