Abstract
The finite element method was used to analyze the three-section directional coupler
in the full wave analysis. The single-section coupler and the three-section coupler
were analyzed using finite element method and then simulated using IE3D on each of
RT/Duroid and GaAs substrate materials for different coupling coefficient. A 20 dB
coupler was designed and realized on RT/Duroid 6006 at 4 GHz. The measurements
of the three-section coupler gave good agreement with the theoretical results and
achieved broad bandwidth when compared with the single-section coupler.
