Abstract
ABSTRACT Engineering problems resulting from the swelling soils have been encounterd in highway fills and sub-grades , building foundations , canal linings and in other earth structures . One of the different techniques to improve swelling soil is using comented marerial as addivites . this paper an experiment study to investigate the effect of mixtures of soil with RHA and additives materials an the geotechnical properties of swelling soils . Two types of swelling soil were used in this research . For each soil, different mixtures of soil whit hRHA and additives material ( lime or cement or salt ) . Mixtures of soil with RHA and additives were prepared with various mix proportions of soil . For each mixture , Atterberg limites , free swell , compaction characteristics, unconfined compressive strength . Chemical analysis of nutural material and different additives were also carried out . The test results indicated that, adding RHA mixtures with lime , cement or salt to swelling soil improves its goetechnical properties better than using swelling soil-additives mixtures without RHA . The results obtained are very encourage for using a cheap , waste material to improve swelling soil properteis
