Abstract
We reviewed the results of reconstruction of the anterior cruciate liga-ment using a technique called. miniarthrotomy press fit- Metal free tech-nique first described by Hertel in Germany 1990. It Ls an intra-articular reconstruction utilizing the medial third of the bone-patellar tendon-bone graft as a free non vascularized autogenous graft. It is done through small single miclline incision. The bony plugs of the graft were fixed by Pres -Fit Mechanism without using interference screws. We operated ;upon 45 patients 38 of them were available for follow up with a mini-mum period of 14 and maximum of 30 months (average 21 months) post operatively. Sport activity wasthe commonest cause of injury (62.2%). The time interval from the onset of injury till the reconstruction ranged from 4 months to 6 years (average 20 months). The patient were evaluated ac-cording to the subjective and objective findings of the modified Hughston criteria (1983). We got satisfactory results (excellent and good) In 31 (81.6%) of the patients. They had negative stability tests. There was no giving way, pain and swelling with almost all the patients activities in-cluding the sport activity. In the other 7 patients (18.4%) the results were unsatisfactory (fair and poor). The stability tests were positive. The pa-tients still complaining of giving way, pain and swelling especially in vig-orous activities. The advantages and the complications of this technique were also discussed.
