This study aimed to evaluate guideline to enhance mother's self-care during postnatal period to promote mother's /neonatal health, using an intervention study design. It was conducted in the postnatal unit and outpatient clinics at Benha University Hospital during the period from April 2010 to the end of December 2010. Sample of two hundred mothers simple random sample was selected, which they were utilized supportive self-care guideline with the following criteria, primipara, and at least they can read and write. Data were collected by interviewing questionnaire, checklist to assess mother’s performance on model about mother's self-care during postnatal period, supportive self-care guideline, and likert scale to assess mother's satisfaction about self-care guidelines. Results of this study revealed that, the mean age of the study sample was 24.7±3.7 years. During pregnancy, about one-half (45.5%) of the mothers were complained from backache. The results also revealed that, the majority (86.5%) of the mothers had correct knowledge and correct performance post intervention. Regarding the mother's attitude towards self-care guidelines, results showed that the majority of mothers were satisfied about the self-care guidelines (Total mean score percent = 85.25%). There was highly significant improvement post intervention regarding mother's acceptance for utilizing family planning methods.
