الملخص
Glucose uptake by cardiac muscle of adult albino rats subjected to ethanol feeding was time and concentration dependant.
Glucose uptak after one hour incubation of
cardiac muscle slices of rats fed 4% ethanol for one week was significantly greater than the corresponding control. Such increased uptake can be attributed to changes in the cell membrane permeability caused by ethanol which was not observed when the time of feeding was prolonged to
two weeks.
Significant inhibition of glucose uptake by cardiac muscle of rats fed 4% ethanol for two weeks was observed in the first hour of incubation. This inhibition was explained by the depressant action of ethanol on insulin release and its stimulation of growth hormone release.
16% ethanol feeding rats for two weeks showed
