الملخص
Waste produced in the course of healthcare activities entails a higher risk of infection and injuries than municipal waste. The problem of how to manage healthcare waste has become one of critical concerns .The aim of the study was to assess the effect of an Intervention program about Health Care Waste Management for Nurses working in Maternal and Child Health Care Centers
At kalyubia Governorate on their knowledge and practice. Design: a quasi- experimental design was used. Settings: This study was conducted at 11 Maternal and Child Health Care Centers that are chosen randomly from 22 Maternal and Child Health Care Centers at Kalyubia Governorate. Sample: purposive sample of criteria accepted to participate used in the study involved All nurses working in the selected Maternal and Child Health Care Centers who accepted to participate in the study (n=185). Tools: two tools were used for data collection. Tool I: Self-administered Knowledge Questionnaire, which was used to collect data about general characteristics of the nurses, and their knowledge about Waste Management before and after implementation of the program. Tool II : Observation Checklist to assess nurses' practice toward waste management. Results: the current study revealed that, years of experience for more than three quarters of nurses were ≤ 11years; also more than three quarters of them didn't have any training courses related to Waste Management.
