Wear behavior of squeeze cast AL-SICp composites at room and elevated temperature.

الملخص
The target of the present work is to study the wear behavior of high Si aluminum alloy metal matrix A-390 composite, reinforced with SiC particulate of a different volume fraction and particle size. The specimens were fabricated using vortex and squeeze technique. The wear tests are carried out using a pin on disc technique. The experimental work extended to investigate the wear rate at elevated temperature. The obtained results indicate that the increase of volume fraction reduces the wear loss as will as the increase of particle size of the reinforcement. A small effect of particle size on wear loss was noticed when compared with the effect of volume fractions. A clear difference was observed as a comparison between vortex and squeeze techniques showing that the specimens fabricated by squeeze technique have a better wear resistance than those fabricated by vortex technique for both room temperature and elevated temperature tests. The obtained results revealed also that, the transition temperature depends on composite volume fraction, and fabrication technique, where a maximum transition temperature was obtained at 12 vol. % for squeeze fabricated specimens.
