Background: Diabetic nephropathy is a clinical syndrome characterized by
persistent albuminuria (> 300 mg/d or> 200 mcg/min). The interaction of advanced glycation
end products with their cellular receptor (RAGE) is implicated in the pathogenesis of diabetic
