الملخص
Objective: The aim of this study was to detect the value of using Mimix Hydroxyapatite(HA) bone cement in ossicular chain reconstruction.
Patients and methods: The study was conducted on 30 patients with conductive hearing loss CHL due to ossicular chain fixation or discontinuity. Patients were classified into 4 groups: group I with primary stapedial otosclerosis, group II with lenticular process erosion, group III with absent incus and group IV with intact stapes suprastructures only (absent incus and malleus).Under general anesthesia Mimix was applied to repair the defect. Post-operative follow up of all patients was performed based on clinical, audiological and radiological investigations.
Results: The four groups showed significant improvement of hearing gain and reduction of air bone gap postoperatively. There were no complications in all cases (no inflammatory, foreign body reaction or extrusion) except one case in group I complicated with post-operative sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL).
Conclusion: Hydroxyapatite bone cement is a promising material in ossicular chain reconstruction as it is malleable, rapidly setting and easly handling.
