الملخص
Background: Lung volume reduction is less invasive and applicable to very severe COPD patients . As this method is based on biological lung volume reduction using silver nitrate and autologous blood by scar formation after local inflammation.
Objectives To evaluate and compare effectiveness of bronchoscopic lung volume reduction using autologous blood versus silver nitrate for the treatment of COPD.
Methods: Group(I) Silver nitrate solution 0.5% was administered bronchoscopically to 13 patients each patient received 3ml of silver nitrate solution 0.5% in each segment of the emphysematous lobe.
Group (II): Autologous blood was administered bronchoscopically to 10 patients each patient received 10 ml of autologous blood in each segment of the emphysematous lobe.
Efficacy was assessed in terms of change from baseline in spirometry, ABG, 6MWT and HRCT lung volumetry after 1month .
Results: Ventilatory pulmonary function tests before and after BLVR in the studied groups, and showed that FEV1% and FVC and FEV1/FVC % after BLVR in the studied groups are highly significant (P value
